Neste projeto pretende-se fazer investigação e desenvolvimento de circuitos fisicamente não-clonáveis (PUFs) de baixo custo com base numa estrutura híbrida, que podem ser utilizados em autenticação ou geração de chaves de criptografia. Combinaremos o melhor de duas tecnologias diferentes: eletrónica impressa para extração da entropia estática e CMOS para digitalização e para processamento dos sinais digitais, alimentação e comunicações.

Este projeto consiste no desenvolvimento e avaliação experimental de um TI-ADC com 12 bits de resolução e 8Gs/s de frequência de amostragem. Os protótipos serão projetados e fabricado numa tecnologia CMOS 28nm (TSMC HPC+), que é aproximadamente 10x a 5x mais barata que tecnologias mais sofisticadas (SiGe ou FD-SOI/finFET). É esperado que este TI-ADC atinja uma taxa de conversão de 8Gs/s com uma linearidade melhor que 9 bits e tenha uma eficiência energética, definida pela FOM de Walden, melhor que 50 fJ/conv-step. A área esperada deve ser menor que 1mm2. Estas características encontram-se atualmente para além do estado da arte de ADC de alta velocidade.

O projeto visa desenvolver e aplicar metodologias baseadas em deteção remota por satélite, Inteligência Artificial (IA) e visão computacional para a gestão eficiente de recursos hídricos no município de Almada. Os principais objetivos incluem: • Deteção de fugas: Identificar roturas na rede de abastecimento (condutas, juntas e reservatórios) através da análise de padrões anómalos no solo e vegetação. • Controlo de consumos: Detetar consumos não autorizados em zonas residenciais e otimizar a rega em espaços públicos. • Apoio à decisão: Disponibilizar uma plataforma interativa com dados em tempo real para ajudar as entidades gestoras (SMAS Almada) na tomada de decisões e criação de alertas. • Impacto: Reduzir as perdas de água no município de Almada em pelo menos 4%. www.recuperarportugal.gov.pt

Strengthening Europe’s Semiconductor Skills Base

As the European Union advances its ambitions under the European Chips Act, strengthening skills and talent across the semiconductor value chain has become a strategic priority. In this context, the POEMS project presents the POEMS Semiconductor Spring School, taking place from 6 to 10 April 2026 at the University of Aveiro, Portugal.

This school is designed for advanced bachelor and early master students, offering a solid foundation in semiconductor technologies alongside an understanding of current challenges and opportunities in microelectronics and semiconductors.

Over five days, participants will explore core POEMS domains such as chip design, advanced packaging and emerging technologies, including photonics. The programme combines introductory and thematic lectures, and experts talks delivered by leading researchers and industry specialists. Participants will gain insight into state-of-the-art technologies, current industrial challenges and emerging international trends, within a structured and interactive learning environment.

The Spring School contributes to Europe’s efforts to develop the next generation of semiconductor experts by addressing skills needs in key strategic technologies and applications are now open to eligible students.

🎓 Who can apply?
The programme is aimed primarily at final-year bachelor’s and first year master’s students. PhD students are also welcome and encouraged to apply, as the school offers valuable opportunities for networking and exchange with peers, researchers and industry experts.

Winter School on Analog and Mixed-Signal (AMS) Layout IC Design 2026.

Este curso de inverno decorrerá entre 26 de janeiro e 11 de fevereiro de 2026, com uma duração aproximada de três semanas, sendo co-organizada pelo Instituto UNINOVA e pela NOVA FCT.

A iniciativa contará com a contribuição de instrutores e com o suporte de IT/PDKs por parte da RENESAS-Portugal, da SYNOPSYS-Portugal e da PME portuguesa POWERTOOLS Technologies, assegurando uma forte ligação à prática industrial e às ferramentas de projeto atuais (ambas, CADENCE e SYNOPSYS).

Devido a restrições logísticas, as inscrições estarão limitadas a 32 participantes, sendo preferencialmente destinadas a alunos finalistas de licenciatura e a alunos do 1.º ano de mestrado das áreas de Engenharia Eletrotécnica e de Computadores, de Engenharia de Micro e Nano Tecnologias e de Engenharia Física.

We are pleased to announce the Winter School on Analog and Mixed-Signal (AMS) Layout IC Design 2026, powered by POEMS, taking place from January 26 to February 11, 2026 (approximately three weeks). This Winter School is co-organized by UNINOVA and NOVA FCT, with valuable contributions from instructors and IT/PDK support provided by RENESAS Portugal, SYNOPSYS Portugal, and the Portuguese SME POWERTOOLS Technologies, offering participants strong exposure to industry-relevant tools and practices.

Due to logistical constraints, participation is limited to 32 students, with priority given to final-year undergraduate students and 1st-year master’s students in Electrical and Computer Engineering, Micro and Nano Technologies Engineering, and Engineering Physics. Seasonal School on Advanced AMS IC Design - 2025

This intensive program, starting on June 12th at UNINOVA, the launch day, and lasting 7 weeks, is aimed mainly at final year Master's and PhD students, as well as young engineering professionals with a solid background in electronics.

The hands-on (on site) training is free of charge and offers an immersive experience focusing on state-of-the-art CMOS technologies (N28 FD-SOI, N22 Bulk, N16 FinFET), with a panel of 6 Speakers and 17 renowned Instructors from Academia and Industry.

The 2024 edition of Workshop of the Doctoral Program in Computer Science of NOVA FCT was hosted by UNINOVA, in a full day event with a live and exciting program.
