The city of Thessaloniki
| Thessaloniki is one of the oldest cities in Europe, the second largest city in Greece, and the capital
of Macedonia, the second largest region in Greece. It was founded in 315 B.C. by Cassander, King of Macedonia,
and was named after his wife Thessaloniki, sister of Alexander the Great. Today Thessaloniki is considered
to be one of the most important trade and communication centers in South East Europe and the Mediterranean.

Travel Information
International flights to Thessaloniki:
The easiest way to get to Thessaloniki is by direct flight to the city's airport (Makedonia International Airport), which is well connected to major cities around Europe. The airport is located 15 km away from the city centre. You can get to the city centre by taxi (approx. cost €18, arround 30 minutes) or a bus (€0.50, arround 45 minutes).
