Today Thessaloniki is considered to be one of the most important trade and communication centers in South East Europe and the Mediterranean. The city presents a great number of Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman monuments, many of which are included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites, and is home to a great number of museums of history, arts, sports, and sciences.
