It is our pleasure to invite you to participate in the 9th IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation, which will be held in at Lisbon, Portugal, on September 16-19, 2003.

The ETFA conference series is the prime, and largest, IEEE event dedicated to factory automation and emerging technologies in industrial automation.

Since 1992, the ETFA conference have been hosted by some of the leading academic and research establishments including University of Tokyo (Tokyo, Japan), INRIA (Paris, France), University of Hawaii (Hawaii), University of California at Los Angeles, Polytechnic University of Catalunia (Barcelona, Spain) and Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis (Nice, France). This time, the ETFA conference is hosted, in cooperation, by UNINOVA-CRI  and Universidade Nova de Lisboa-FCT-DEE.

The aim of the ETFA conference series is to provide researchers and practionners from industry and academia with a platform to report on recent developments in the newly emerging areas of technology and their potential applications to factory automation. ETFA conferences were fortunate to attract high quality papers. Many of these were later published in the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics.
