ACCOMMODATION

Accommodation will be provided by the Hotel Costa da Caparica (50m from the beach) or other surrounding hotels at prices to suit individual budgets. Full details will be issued with the conference booking form in January 2005.

SOCIAL PROGRAMME

On the night of 29^th June a welcome dinner will be offered to the participants. Conveniently held on the Conference Hotel Buffet, this dinner will constitute a wonderful occasion for the participants to relax, meet and discuss ideas in front of a luxurious ocean view. In the afternoon of the 30^th June a tour to the beautiful area of Arrábida and a dinner on a typical Portuguese village will be offered to the participants.

ABOUT COSTA DA CAPARICA

Costa da Caparica belongs to the Almada council, located on the south bank of the river Tagus where magnificent sandy beaches stretch south for nearly 30 kilometres from Caparica to Cabo Espichel. Big areas of eucalyptus, pine-trees and acacia-trees spread along the white, fine sands. But Costa da Caparica is more than beaches and huge areas of white sands, although this is the first thing you'll remember when you think of it.

Located about 10Km far from Lisbon centre and around 30 minutes from the International Airport, you can easily visit the traditional old town (Saint George Castle, Glória Funicular, Santa Justa Elevator, Rossio Station, etc), its typical neighbourhoods (Alfama, Mouraria, Sé, Bairro Alto, etc) and its famous monuments (Belém Palace, Jerónimos Monastery, Monument to the Discoveries, Belém Tower, Lisbon Planetarium, etc) or the modern and fashionable area of the Nations Park (Oceanarium, cable car ride, Vasco da Gama Shopping Centre, Vasco da Gama bridge and tower, etc).

Beautiful country areas are also easily reachable: Sintra (described by Byron as "the most pleasing in Europe" – Monserrate Palace, National Palace, Pena Palace, etc), Queluz Palace, Mafra Palace, Cascais, Cabo da Roca, Arrábida, etc.

All these places are easily reachable using the public transportation facilities or by rental car.

For those who want to stay for longer, a trip to the famous region of Algarve where more than 100 sandy beaches of warm and clean Atlantic Ocean waters can found can also be considered. At about 300Km from Algarve Costa da Caparica can be the starting point for unforgettable holydays in one of the most magnificent beaches of Europe.
